Day 2 in Kona (For photos of Day 2 in Kona click here)
We got up and went for a little walk with Tauny and Debbie, checking out the area around the hotel. We saw one of the locals catch a rather serious fish and I got asked to do an interview for German based 3athlon.
After that we went for a swim with Phil, Tauny and Debbie (see photo on the left, taken after the swim). We swam to the Royal Kona and back (about 1.2 miles). When we got into the water there was a large turtle checking out all the triathletes legs. The turtle won the breath-holding-competition with some margin. We won the salt water swallowing competition. Jo also went for a swim in the big ocean!

After the morning swim we went for breakfast to Lava Java. What a great place to sit down, relax and drink coffee! The coconut muffin finished it all off nicely. We walked back and the sky was incredibly clear. Often the humidity in Kona generates a bit of a haze but today the view was incredibly good.
When we got back to the hotel, Jo and I drove to the airport to the car rental place and we added her as a designated driver to the car, so she could drive the car tomorrow when Chrissie Wellington and I will ride a large section of the bike course.
At the airport I got on the bike and Jo drove the car. I did a short and easy ride to losen he legs a bit. My heart rate averaged 116 bpm and my power 204 W, telling me that things are going ok and the legs are actually well rested! Check my training in TrainingPeaks fileviewer here.
In the evening we were invited by Phil Annette for dinner at Huggo's. A great finish to another great day in Hawaii. Now there are only 6 days to go and soon things will start to get a bit more nervous ... |
