The third day in Maui
After the late lecture in Birmingham, a short night sleep. Afre a quick weather check we went with Mr Z to explore the island a bit mroe. We went to Lahaina in the North West of the Island. The weather forecast was not great but the sun was out and it was getting pretty hot. The coast road to Lahaina was beautiful and when we got to the town we parked Mr Z and scouted for good coffee!
Lahaina is a small harbour town lined with exquisite art galleries and plenty of cafes and coffee shops. With all the galleries, it reminded me a little of Sedona in Arizona.I was extremely impresed by the photo gallery of Peter Lik. The photos were just amazing! His photos were mostly landscape with incredible colours and compositions. I would strongly recommend checking out the web site to anyone who is into photography.
There was plenty of activity in Lahaina marina with tourists boarding ships for snorkling trips and passengers from cruise ships landing for a few hours on shore. After a coffee, tea, a muffin and a bagel we got back into Mr Z and drove into the dark clouds that had gathered around Iao Valley State Park. We drove around the rain and managed to keep a sunny day!
We arrived back at the hotel for a light day of training including a swim and a 10km run. Then we got ready for a nice dinner in the nearby uptown Wailea. On the way, in the dark, by the side of the road we found a stranded cyclist (broken chain) and gave him a ride home. He knew the island very well and all th restaurants, he was training for the Xterra race in Maui and told us about the best places to swim and bike. We ended up having dinner in a restaurant 50 m from the hotel. |
