Day 6 in Maui: Going to Kona
As in the previous days we got up early (5AM), I worked a bit and had breakfast. Then I started the day with a lovely bike ride along the coast towards Lahaina. It was extremely windy. See my bike training session here.

I felt pretty good and had no problems at all with 250-300W and the ride which would normally have been pretty hard was easy. I covered 50km in exactly 90 min. After I got back, I packed my bike and Jo had already packed most of my suitcase. We relaxed at the pool for a bit and I did my swim training in the hotel's 10 meter pool... with the strong winds the ocean wasn't the best place to swim.

At 1PM we checked out and drove towards Wailuku and visited the Maui Tropical Plantation. We took a guided tour that took us through the plantation. Apart from pineapple, bananas, avocado, mango, guave etc there were also some very unusual fruits. I was so glad we took the time to visit this plantation. We still had time to go to Iao Valley State Park. This was a completely different part of Maui! It was incredibly green. It is the rainy part of Maui and indeed the 6 days we had been in Maui, we had been able to see Ioa Valley State Park and it was always surrounded by clouds, often very dark clouds.

Then it was time for a coffee and our favorite place Paia was a 10 mile drive. We took the car and had a wonderful lunch/dinner in Paia. It was one of the nicest places we had bee to in Maui.

After that we spend a bit of time watching the surfers concur the waves. Truly amazing! At 5PM we took the car back to Hertz and found out that our flight was 3.5h delayed... oh well. It meant we got into Kona after 11PM. Definitely the lastest night we had had so far! Courtesy to North West Airlines.
